We have eaten twice at the Roman within the last week, firstly for a tapas evening and then for a traditional Sunday lunch. The tapas are varied and excellent - there is a wide standard range and a list of the day's specials on a chalk board. Service is impeccable too. A pleasant surprise today was the quality of the.

Popped in here yesterday on my own as I was in the area on a business trip. Superb little restaurant. I had 3 excellent tapas dishes followed by a delightful dessert. Nice ambience. Friendly service. Good pub just over the road too.

“Excellent, every time!”
I have eaten here many times, both as a couple and in big groups. The food is delicious, very reasonably priced, and there is a great selection of wine. The owner and the waitress are excellent. Definitely worth a visit!!

"Good wine selection, and excellent Tapas, which in recent years has become an excuse to lump up prices, here the value is good and the selection excellent. Everything was done nicely and the wine we chose was superb. No fuss, nothing fancy, just really good food at a reasonable price. We also went with my sister who is a veggie and she was limited to the usual "Omelette and Chips" option. Will be back!"

“Best tapas I've ever tasted!”
This is a great local restaurant, where each dish is freshly made and tastes like it! Before I came here, I had rather a low opinion of tapas and thought it was over-rated and over-oily. But that's all changed thanks to the Roman Tapas and Grill where the staff are charming, the wine flows and the tapas are delicious. Very reasonably priced too and each dish is a good size for sharing.

Excellent authentic Tapas restaurant. Lovely decor and very friendly owner/manager & staff. It makes such a refreshing change to have a restaurant run by it's owner rather than being part of chain. Highly recommended.

Excellent restaurant with great atmosphere, very good service and good value for money
Just a quick email to thank you for putting on such a great evening for our Christmas party last night. Food was delicious, nicely judged and brilliant to have food on the table when we arrived! There was plenty of everything and i would go there again willingly.
We all had a lot of fun, and a lot of food!
Look forward to visiting the restaurant again very soon.
We are now open for lunch from 12 noon on Friday and Sunday.

ROMAN TAPAS AND GRILL – authentic dishes and stylish interior
ROMAN Way is one of those roads that the world forgot. Despite being surrounded by large council estates, there seems to be a strange lack of people.
The speed bumps and seemingly ever-growing potholes make drivers and cyclists a rarity too.
And the piece de resistance is Pentonville Prison, casting its monstrous concrete shadow over the deserted street.
One of the most depressing sights I have witnessed was a drunk lady screaming at the prison in the early hours, begging an inmate to bring her boyfriend to the window because she wanted to speak to him.
Until now, the only bright spot has been the Hemingford Arms, standing at the junction with Offord Road with its flowery frontage hinting at the delights ahead as you cross from Holloway into Barnsbury.
Finally though, there is something else to attract visitors.
Roman Tapas and Grill opened two months ago but already it has caused quite a stir in the area.
With its open kitchen, stylish interior, cheap bites and tables out front bathed in the evening sunshine, this is every inch the authentic tapas bar.
There are salads, steaks and paella, but most people drop in because the tapas is sensational. Two huge plates of gambas and calamari were beautifully fresh and bursting with flavour. The tortilla was delightfully light with an almost melt in the mouth texture. The patatas bravas had a slightly barbecued taste which gave it an interesting extra kick. While the spicy tomato aioli, crème fraiche and sweet chilli dipping sauces which accompany many of the dishes are a nice touch.
Save room for dessert though, because the tarte tatin in particular is sublime.
It's early days, but with Roman Way crying out for a makeover, and Barnsbury as a whole crying out for a tapas restaurant, this could just be a match made in heaven. - ROB BLEANEY
